Oh, yeah. There's gotta be an antenna in there, too.

We go through it often: design ready, an antenna on it and...? EMC problems! In the worst case this means a redesign from scratch. Often this can be prevented, that's why this blog has some handles.

Integrated design. In all our projects, the antenna is part of the design from the beginning. The influence of electronics, embedded software and especially the housing is big so you have to take it into account right from the start. We often don't see optimal antenna operation in equipment, because the antenna is only added in the late(er) phase. Adjustments to the design and sometimes even a complete redesign is then necessary with all costs and a later time-to-market.
Antenna design for prototypes. The approach is to make a prototype as soon as possible after the design. Perhaps not yet with all functionalities, but as much as possible with the complete hardware and housing. Antenna operation and radiation diagram can then be measured and adjusted. A design adjustment has much less impact than if this is done at a later stage.
